The amount of people out there that have thought about starting a new business is astounding. The amount of them that have talked themselves out of doing so are even more remarkable.
I get it because I was one of those people at one time.
I remember thinking that I wasn’t smart enough, didn’t have a great idea and I didn’t have the skills necessary to make it.
Look back in history and check out how many of the most successful people in the world started out in a garage because there was nothing remarkable about them. Not yet anyway.
Not every great business was started by a wealthy guy or gal. Majority of millionaires in America are self-made and that’s a fact.
The goal of this post is to inspire you and show you that you have the ability to create the life of your dreams and jump into entrepreneurship.
We’ve put together a list of top notch small business opportunities that can be launched by a complete beginner or an experienced entrepreneur.
They require very little upfront cost as well.
This is not a repeat of businesses that were hot three years ago. These are great opportunities IN 2019. Like today.
They’re all fantastic and have big time potential. My favorites is the local lead gen model because it’s changed my life.
But we’ll get into that later! Let’s jump right in.
Craft Brewery

This is a very compelling thought for beer lovers out there. Many people have a passion for trying ever beer they can get their hands on. If that’s you then this could be an amazing opportunity.
There are so many new breweries popping up every single year. The room for more breweries is astounding because there are so many local bars and restaurants that are willing to put new beers on their menu.
This could be a bit pricey as far as start up costs go but you could always start with a smaller operation and grow over time. You could even begin your business from a garage or similar space.
Pet Care

People are more and more willing to spend money on pet care with every year that passes. People love their pets as much as they love their family.
Hell you’ve probably even heard someone say they like pets more than people.
Point being people are willing to spend tons of money on their furry family members.
The opportunities in the pet business are almost endless. Too many for us to list here. Instead we’ll take the direction of beginner business opportunities in the industry.
Dog walking and pet sitting are two mainstream options but they’re very much needed. You could walk multiple dogs every single day of the week or take care of someone’s pets when they’re away on business.
There’s minimal start up cost with this business because you’re simply providing a service that doesn’t require equipment on your end. All you need is a dog to walk or a house with space to offer pets.
In-Home Health Care

The combination of health care advancements and the baby boomers growing older create a massive business opportunity.
People are living longer which means the population of elders swells every year. And most people avoid putting their parents or grandparents in nursing homes at all cost.
That’s where you come in. You can bridge that gap.
You have the chance to make a great impact on peoples lives and it results in a very profitable business at the same time.
That said, the upfront costs of the business can be higher than most expect. Yes you’re traveling to others homes so you won’t need to rent a building but you will need to pay for certain certifications as well as hiring some staff so you can handle multiple clients.
Event Planning

I don’t know about you but I’ve seen many movies that feature an event planner in a Hollywood setting and it manifests a dream for many out there of become a planner.
There’s a lot of opportunities out there for people in this space. It’s not for everyone though as it does require top notch organization skills and you have to be a people person.
This is an industry that can be a little tough in the beginning until you get your name out there and people know who you are. And how good you are at what you do.
Chances are you have friends or family that will be getting married or maybe they’re throwing a luxurious sweet 16 party. That would be the perfect opportunity for you to get your foot in the door and show people what you can do.
Blogging

Blogging is a fantastic option for anybody out there that owns a computer with an internet connection. You can build your blog traffic as a side hustle until you’re able to monetize it to the point that you can replace your 9 to 5 income.
The beauty of this business is having the ability to talk about whatever you desire and are passionate about. If you’re a health nut then talk about nutrition and exercising. Maybe you’re into sports and you decide to start blogging about your local professional team or club. You’re obsessed with biking so you build a blog to inform newcomers about the biking hobby.
The opportunities in this space are endless and blogging can become an extremely lucrative business.
But how do I make a dime off people reading my content? Yeah I always thought about that too but there are many ways to monetize a blog.
You could allow affiliate marketers to place links to their products on your site or maybe you have your own affiliations. Make sure these products or services are relevant to your content.
There’s always advertising revenue that you can take advantage of. Companies are always looking for more ways to promote what they offer.
Electronic Repair

Electronics can be some of the most expensive products that we buy these days. Most of us are constantly using our cell phones or computers. I’ve already been in the situation where I spill something on my laptop and it feels like someone drove a knife through me.
Not only because I need to use it daily but because I know how expensive it can be to fix it. Wondering if my warranty is still active and if I’m going to have to purchase a brand new one.
Maybe you have a lot of technical experience or you just want to help others that feel this way. Electronics are only becoming more prevalent in our society and the demand for repair techs will only increase.
You could start out gaining experience with only one type of device. Let’s say a smart phone. You can specialize in repairing phones for a while and eventually branch out into other products.
You don’t necessarily need to own a brick and mortar for this but it could be a good idea so people don’t think you’re just a technology handyman.
I don’t think I’d trust someone off the streets to just repair my expensive electronic devices. I’d rather pay up for an experienced professional in the industry.
Not saying you can’t offer repairs to friends and family but to truly grow your business you’ll need to attract customers that don’t have a connection to you.
High quality and low prices will surely lead you to the promise land in this industry.
Handyman

Yeah it’s true, manufactures aren’t building products today with the same high quality materials. Things seem to break down a lot quicker these days which makes for a perfect opportunity as a handyman.
If you’re very versatile and have a diverse set of skills then this has the potential to be very profitable.
It’s a very tough career choice as many of the tasks you perform can be very taxing on your body. Many states require specific licenses to legally complete many home services.
Most handymen grow their businesses by starting out helping friends and family and later depend on word of mouth. Of course there are other ways of getting business but this is the most common.
Writing Resumes for Others

If you have experience in a corporate setting as an HR person or something similar then chances are you’ve looked over a resume or two in your life. Like anything else, the more experience you get the easier it is to differentiate the good ones from the bad ones.
With that knowledge and experience you could write resumes for other people. Many people are lost when it comes to resume writing and they get really nervous because they’re applying for the next step in their career.
That creates a great chance for people with resume writing skills to make some money. If someone thinks that a great resume gives them a better chance of getting that next promotion or a “career job” then they’ll be willing to pay up.
This is a great option to make some money from your own home. Once you’ve done this for a few people and they get that promotion or job you’ll be able to create some case studies and give you some results to promote.
Photography

Social media has grown the photography industry immensely over the last few years. Pictures can be sold or licensed for a lot of money if their high quality. A company might buy one from you for their product or website.
The cost of this business really depends on the scale at which you’re doing business. If you do this full-time then you’ll be doing tons of shoots which means you’ll need a computer and software that handle the magnitude of work. That means buying a computer with the capabilities of editing.
Of course you’ll also need camera and lighting equipment depending on the types of shoots you’re doing.
From there all you’ll need to do is put together a portfolio of past work over time as well as build your connections to get referrals. There are other ways but these are the most commonly seen in photography.
Children’s Daycare

Child care has been on the rise over the last couple of decades because in most households both parents are working full-time these days. Tons of daycare owners start their operation from their own home and expand over time.
Approaching it that way will decrease your upfront cost.
You will have to acquire certifications to legally provide child care however.
The best way to grow your business is to love the kids. It’s pretty simple really, if the parents love the way you treat their kids then word of your business will spread like wildfire. If not then your business will crumble before it gets off the ground.
Create & Sell Pet Food

We’ve already gone over the size of the pet industry. It’s ridiculously large and there’s always room for new players in the market. There’s one avenue in the industry that most people don’t think about and that’s making and selling your own blend of pet food.
It sounds scary I know but it’s actually not that difficult. People are always looking to give their pets a better life and that means always searching for ways to better their diets.
Many pet owners these days aren’t willing to skimp out on pet food. They want to feed their pets high nutrition foods that they themselves would be willing to put into their body. These furry friends are members of the family.
Of course there will be some research involved on your part especially in the beginning but you could quickly become a success with word of mouth.
The Food Truck Business

The food truck industry is absolutely booming these days. This is one of my favorite models these days because of the ability to show your food to the world and your cooking talents along with the increased profit margins.
It’s obviously much cheaper than opening your own restaurant. It also allows you to be more flexible as you can pick up and go to a particular event that someone has asked you to provide for.
You can see massive results with a single truck and if all goes according to plan you can easily scale by continuing to add more trucks. You’ll need to looking into necessary certifications.
Appliance Repair

This is a lot more focused than the handyman business that we talked about earlier in the post. Instead of being good at multiple things around a house you’ll have be a professional and highly experienced with appliances.
There are many large companies out there that you’ll be going head to head with so you’ll have to work on setting yourself apart.
That can be a good thing if you play your cards the right way. Many people I know will absolutely hire a small business owner over a company like Lowe’s or Home Depot. They simply trust the quality of work and work ethic of a small business owner more.
You’ll have to invest in specific tools and there’s really no way around that so the upfront costs could be relatively high depending on what you need to get the jobs done.
Landscaping

Landscaping is a business that many people disregard and believe it can’t be a highly profitable business. That’s just not true. There will always be homeowners that prefer to have their yard maintained rather than doing it themselves.
Also apartment complexes, rented homes and commercial properties all employ landscaping and lawn care businesses to maintain their properties. The great thing about it is that these customers could be life long if you do high quality work.
This is another business that can minimize upfront costs by starting small like mowing residential properties with a lawn mower or two and eventually moving up to commercial lots and warehouse developments.
A lot of growing your company will come down to talking to people and providing great and efficient work. People will have no problem referring you to friends and family.
Web Development & Design

Web development is a business and skill that many people shy away from even though they know how lucrative it can be. They simply think it’s way to difficult to learn. It’s really not as difficult as many people make it out to be.
Yes it can require some skill advancements but it’s nothing the average person can’t learn to do. There’s many site builders out there that you can use such as Weebly or Squarespace that make things so much easier.
You really don’t need any coding experience to build a site on sites like these.
The great thing about offering a digital service is the massive profit margins. As long as you have a computer and a decent internet connection you’ll be all set.
Tour Guide
To me this sounds like a pretty sweet gig. I mean come on, walking around showing people places of interest all day. And they actually want to be there?! Sounds like a great deal.
Obviously the profit potential isn’t massive here but it’s a really nice balance between fun and solid income. You’ll have to love talking to people and carry conversations for a long period of time.
One of the biggest limitations is your geographic area though. If you live in the middle of nowhere then obviously this just won’t work. There could be places of interest around you that you simply just don’t know about so you could do some research on the history of your area.
Mobile Pet Grooming

I love this business and I think the potential goes well into the future. I mean think about it…
We’ve already talked about how the pet industry continues to see new heights year after year. Couple that with people becoming more willing to pay a bigger price for convenience and you have a perfect marriage here.
If you’re a pet lover then you’ll find this job much more rewarding than the average person.
If you take this business mobile then you’ll be saving a ton of money on the front end as you won’t need to spend on a brick and mortar. Clients being able to spend money for you to come to their house instead of loading their pets into a vehicle has huge potential.
Drop Shipping
This business has continued it’s rise in popularity for several years now and still does every year. It’s nice because you can run it from your own home.
Essentially you’re selling a product on the internet while not having to deal with things that normal brick and mortars have to deal with.
You will build a site that your customers will visit to purchase a product, the manufacturer you’re working with will receive the order and fulfill it.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization is not as difficult as most people make it out to be. If you’ve always be interested in online business then this is a great skill that you can learn in just a handful of months.
I’ve come across countless companies that are looking for highly skilled professionals in this space to help them increase sales in their business.
The upfront costs are really small. Maybe you’ll have to invest in a course on the internet to learn the skills necessary and a couple online tools but that’s it.
The most challenging thing about SEO is the constant change that the industry experiences. You’ll always be challenged to figure out new tactics and strategies.
Bed & Breakfast
This has become an even better business opportunity since people started buying into what Air BnB has to offer. It’s cool because you can use your own space and home if you have room that you don’t use.
Air BnB makes it extremely easy to run the business. The website is very user friendly and requires very little work on your end. Just focus your energy on making the space homey and appealing to potential travelers looking for a place to stay.
You can absolutely make some money this way and it could even pay for the mortgage on your home and more.
Conclusion
Most people live out their days being too afraid to take a jump and open a business of their own. But they shouldn’t be. There’s too many profitable business opportunities out there to take advantage of and more of them pop up every single year.
You should absolutely do your homework on whatever business you’re thinking of because you’re going to be spending a considerable amount of time, effort and money.
If you’ve got a hobby then think about ways you can make it into a profitable business. You’d be surprised what you can come up with if you give it some thought.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about being a business owner it’s doing something you enjoy doing every day. Money is absolutely important but once you get the money you have to be okay with doing what you do every single day.
Find something that intrigues you. Maybe it’s a business we talked about and maybe it’s not. Just figure out what you wanna do and go do it. Work your ass off and it’ll probably pay off as long as there’s a need for what you offer.
Go get it!
Making Six Figures Online In 2019
I’d like to include this business in the list because it’s what I do and it’s what I believe in because it’s helped me realize my dreams. In my local lead gen business I have the ability to scale my income to an infinite amount and I get to help small business owners in the process.
Many business owners are very experienced in the services they offer but they don’t have a clue how to market themselves therefore they lack the amount of sales/customers they’d like.
That’s where I come in with local lead gen because I bridge that gap.
I leverage free traffic from search engines to collect leads for small businesses and I send them the customers for compensation.
This site delivers $650 to my bank account ever month for doing just that.

I’ve got so many other sites right now but that’s one of the first one’s I built around the time I got started in this industry.
Passive income baby. I love it.
